What is Revelation Movement?
Revelation Movement is an initiative to re-establish the cultural authority of truth. Contemporary culture is disintegrating because truth has been downgraded to private preference with no public authority. High school graduates enter universities presupposing that no one knows nor can even know the truth. Professor Alan Bloom described this phenomenon as “The Closing of the American Mind” to meaningful investigation. In contrast, earlier generations went to college to find truth. That is why universities like Harvard and Drake made VERITAS (Truth) part of their motto. The commitment to seek and follow the truth – not fancies – was the foundation that led the West to free people from slavery and oppression into relative heights of justice and prosperity.

Why has common sense collapsed? Why are myths and mysticism superseding the earlier confidence in logic? Where goes the road that denies truth?

On this website, lectures like “From Martin Luther’s Vicarage to Hugh Hefner’s Harem: Turning Men into (Play)boys and Women into Desperate Housewives”, preview the end of the road for families. “From Paul to Paris Hilton” and “Bach to Cobain” examine where today's philosophical assumptions are driving popular culture. However, the end of this road could be terrifying for the whole world. Germany – the first Protestant nation – gave the world Adolf Hitler, the 20th century's arch-villain. In his film Avatar, James Cameron foresees greed-driven secularized capitalism creating the American villain of 21st century.

Indeed, once equality and human rights are changed from truths to private preferences then the philosophical foundations of American civilization are gone. Words become means merely of manipulation and control: be they words of the Constitution, courts, media, academy, or scriptures. How long can a house without foundations stand? A lecture, Could America Collapse Like A House of Cards? explores that question.

Why did the modern world think that humans can know what is true, good, and beautiful? Why is that confidence disappearing? These questions are discussed in lectures and in The Book That Made Your World: How the Bible Created the Soul of Western Civilization. A forthcoming series will explore the philosophical, scientific, and sociological factors behind postmodern irrationalism. For now, you will find a short answer in four sermons Will America Become a Kingdom of Darkness?

Can truth be known?

The Lord Jesus said, “If you abide in my word . . . you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32) Divine revelation gave the West its unique confidence that the human mind can know the truth. For example, in his original draft of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson wrote, “We hold these truths to be sacred that all men are created equal. . .” The term “Sacred” meant “divinely revealed.” Enlightenment thinkers such as Benjamin Franklin forced Jefferson to change “sacred” to “self-evident.” since they erroneously thought that revealed truths were common sense.

Can our eyes see without light? Can our minds know truth without the light of revelation? The postmodern mind assumes that it cannot know the truth because the brain evolved to aid survival, not to discover truth. Empirical evidence does not enable one to conclude that all races and tribes have evolved equal. If human rights are not endowed by evolution then they have to be deemed sociological constructs and therefore changeable. We have to anticipate another, better species to supersede humanity.

Must the sun now set on the West? Not necessarily. America and the West can again be transformed. This website invites you to help catalyze an education revolution that will reform.

A Global Education Revolution

Europe and America became great because from 11th to the 19th centuries, Christian denominations established universities to train graduate leaders for every sphere of society. Twentieth century secularized education – the church’s enterprise. That is one root cause of today's decline. Yet there is hope. Yesterday, only large denominations could establish universities. Today, your congregation can offer students a much better and affordable university degree.

This appeal to disciple nations through education was first articulated in Truth and Transformation: A Manifesto for Ailing Nations. Indonesia translated this book in 2009. In 2010 it made a credible beginning to equip 10,000 churches to serve and disciple their nation. YWAM’s University of the Nations has backed this indigenous initiative.

In September 2011, Dr. Bob Moffitt (Harvest), Dr. Stephen McDowell (Providence Foundation) and Vishal Mangalwadi will place this practical proposal before Brazil's church. Then Allan Carrington, an experienced Learning Designer working in the university sector in Australia, will assist Revelation Movement in preparing a curriculum on The Bible and Civilization. This will be posted online for informal and formal studies. This interactive blended curriculum will be made available to universities and translated into multiple languages.

Mentoring Creative Writers

Through the Literary Tour of England, Revelation Movement is discovering and mentoring thinkers and potential writers who can relate truth to culture. The tours give them an opportunity to develop their gifts and become transforming writers. Please encourage aspiring writers to participate in our next essay competition.

In 2017, the world will celebrate the 500th anniversary of the history’s greatest revolution – the Reformation. The Revelation Movement is producing resources to again unleash the reforming power of truth. We need your prayers and financial participation to improve both the quality and the quantity of our resources. With enough supporters we will provide these and better resources for the social media as well as radio and television.
